Those Darlins are a trio of Southern gals who combine a lot of things I love: girl group melodies, twangy instrumentation, rockabilly sass and a dash of lo-fi punk spirit. Think an alt-country version of the Vivian Girls as fronted by June Carter Cash. They sing about booze, snaggle-toothed mamas, eating the whole damn chicken and more booze. If it wasn't for their brash grit (these girls don't fool around, dontcha know) I swear you'd think there debut self-titled album was recorded fifty years ago. But hey, it comes out this Tuesday (on vinyl and via iTunes, and the CD itself will be out 7/7) Y'all should check it out.
