I think it is fair to say of Neko Case that I, at least, came for the vocals and stayed for the songwriting. It can, of course, be hard to separate the two, and that's part of her charm ... the dream images wrapped in that incredible voice.
I think brevity might be considered her strength ... the omission of everything that doesn't convey the tone results in very tight compositions, and if one always wants more, well, at least we're never skipping ahead.
